  1. Wow a trip all the way to Beijing for a 15 minute preso! That’s got to be a record ;)

    it’s an interesting presentation, I’d like to see a lot more of this in Australia. Unfortunately the most frequent mobile web industry nights we get over here focus on marketing, advertising and monetising. It is so dull. If we’re lucky we get something on communities, but again, it’s closely tied to how they can advertise, market and monetise the communities.

    I’d love to see some more stuff presented on MWBP and accessibility in those forums, but unfortunately most of the audience doesn’t seem to be interested. It’s very disappointing.

    One note on your “short links”: according to a lot of usability research links shouldn’t be too short. Longer link texts help users to get an idea of what’s behind that link. It also increases the clickable area (Fitt’s law).

  3. @Lisa: yes it was a long way to go but well worth it! Do you guys have Mobile Monday’s? It may be worth bringing up the cross over of MWBP and accessibility there or including it on the agenda on a Barcamp or Web Standards meetup. We have the odd thing going on here but I agree with you in that it is not talked about enough (hence the reason for this blog!). Another thing I find is that if you talk about it in the context of a business case for mobile or web access I find that this tends to make people listen more.

    @Micheal: thanks for your comments. There is definitely more thought to go into this and anaylsis of where there are cross overs and clashes. As with all guidelines I think the key is to remember that they are guidelines (or for mobile web best practices) so a healthy pinch of pragmatism needs to be added to the pot when implementing guidance. The key is to understand the user and think of pages and designs from a user and not just designer developer perspective.

    I agree also about having a larger clickable area. This is why I’m a fan of images and a link text being presented within the same link. This is a catchall solution (providing the image is given null alt text). In terms of making links understandable I have to say I’m a fan of a well worded yet short link.
